Pressurized Irrigation Notice

As Mayor, I am extremely concerned about the lack of snow pack for irrigation usage this upcoming summer. It appears at this time ALL of us are going to have to conserve where we can. Now is the time to begin planting our gardens. I would recommend we do so. Keep in mind that it could be a dry summer. Let's hope and pray for more snow in the mountains and a wet spring and summer. In the meantime, I would like to review the city ordinance and guidelines to follow.

The Payson City Water Department is in the process of ensuring that the pressurized irrigation system is operational for the 2007 season. Due to below normal snow pack and precipitation levels (less than 38%) it is necessary for all users to follow the guidelines below:

  • All users with odd numbered addresses shall water only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

  • All users with even numbered addresses shall water only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

  • Absolutely no watering on Sunday

  • Watering times should be from midnight to 10am and 6pm to midnight. Please restrict watering times to 20 minutes or less per station or area.

It is vital that all users of the system ensure that water is not wasted. Violating the following ordinance may result in being charged with a Class C Misdemeanor, a fine of $750 and/or 90days in jail.

Ordinance 10.10.2 Wasting Water Prohibited

It shall be unlawful for any pressurized irrigation user to waste water by imperfect stop-taps, leaky joints or pipes, or to allow tanks or watering troughs to leak or overflow. Additionally, water shall not be wasted by allowing water to run from hose bibs, excessive watering, open pipes, or other apparatus, or to use the water in such a manner as to cause it to overflow into the neighboring yards, property, streets or sidewalks, or in violation of the rules and regulations set forth by resolution for controlling the Pressurized Irrigation System service.

Please note that the big water users in our city (schools, cemetery, Peteetneet, etc.) will be allowed to water during the day so the residents will have the pressure in the evening.

Ensure valves are turned off to avoid flooding!

Thank you for your cooperation!
