Min Req: Bachelors degree with a major in urban/regional planning or a closely related field, plus two (2) years of professional planning experience; working knowledge of general plan amendments, annexations, long range planning, and zoning; ARC GIS and related GIS and CAD software. A valid Utah Drivers license plus good driving record required. Summary of duties: Under general supervision, the Planner I is responsible for carrying out long range planning activities, general plan updates, including counter assistance, handling zoning questions by phone and daily processing of plans and projects for review. Will also work with the Board of Adjustments and participate in some Advanced Planning. This list is not all-inclusive of duties or tasks. SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Development Services Director, performs independent work with minimal direction. Duties include responding to public inquiries and land use complaints, conducting research and preparing detailed staff reports, administering City and related ordinances, presenting information orally, and conducting site inspections.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Participation in the implementation of the approval of the City Council granted for subdivisions, site plans, and other land use applications ensuring that all conditions of approval are satisfied and that coordination between departments occurs. Completion of site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and permits.
Respond to public inquiries regarding land use, zoning, and zoning enforcement and provide interpretation of all land use ordinances for City personnel, City Council members and Planning Commissioners, property owners, architects and design professionals.
Completion of field investigations to determine zoning violations; provision of photographic evidence; contact responsible persons; compose letters to inform violators; perform follow-up investigations; and obtain resolution through voluntary compliance, abatement of violation, or court proceedings. Prepare memos and reports regarding zoning enforcement matters.
Assure that the zoning maps and other graphic representations are updated as necessary, accurate and available to all involved or interested persons.
Conduct research, prepare detailed staff reports and make presentations before the Planning Commission, City Council,
Board of Adjustment and various public forums on matters pertaining to zone changes, site and design, land subdivisions, or contested decisions as required. Assure that the legal requirements, such as publication and mailing of notices of public hearings and process timing, are satisfied. |
